This past weekend Mom and I took our first trip together. (Daddy couldn’t come because he was playing Hamlet.) We flew up to Oregon for my mom’s friend’s wedding. For some reason she wouldn’t let me go to the wedding with her so my friend Peyton’s parents watched me on Saturday night. It was the first night I spent all alone without Mommy or Daddy. I wasn’t scared though because Peyton showed me all of her toys and if I cried her parents came running right away. I tried not to cry too much but sometimes I can’t help it.
I learned this weekend that smiles go a long way. I could get almost anything I wanted. One time my mom’s other friends were playing with me and when I would smile, they would smile back and play with me more. One of them, the one with long hair, tickled me crazy so much that my smile made noises! It was kind of like coughing but different.
Another time Mom was trying to put me in my car seat but it was taking a really long time. I thought it was funny that Mom couldn’t get me buckled in and I couldn’t stop smiling at her. When she finally looked up, and saw me looking back and smiling, her eyebrows opened up and she smiled back and then, “pop!” it buckled!
By the time we flew home I really had this smiling trick down. I flashed my two pearly-whites at the lady on the plane, while at the same time making eye contact, and BAM! I had her eating out of the palm of my little hand. She moved the man next to Momma so I could have my own seat!
I had a really good time with my mom’s friends and finally meeting Peyton in person (I had only seen pictures before). My favorite parts were playing with Peyton’s toys and riding on the airplane. I also liked sleeping in the same bed as Mom because that meant that I could wake up and see her every 3-4 hours instead of waiting until the next morning like I usually do at home.
